  • Erin go Braugh!
Irish foreign minister Eamon Gilmore criticized the New York City St. Patrick?s Day Parade for its ban on LGBT groups, saying, ?Exclusion is not an Irish thing.?

Gilmore, who assumed his new post in the last week, made the remarks Wednesday during a historic meeting with Irish LGBT leaders at the Irish Consulate in Manhattan. In addition to the gay boycott, many allied political leaders avoid the St. Patrick?s Day in New York City because its sponsoring organization prohibits LGBT participants from marching under the own banners.

  • If at first you don't succeed, try, try again:
Mitt Romney?s health care Gordian Knot, ctd: Romney supporters are road-testing a new argument to get him around his Romneycare individual mandate problem: If there?s anything wrong with the health reform plan he passed as Governor of Massachusetts, it?s the fault of Massachusetts Democrats.
  • Tim Pawlenty is trying out a southern drawl ahead of his 2012 presidential run. Listen:

  • Netroots Nation news:
We're extremely happy to add Russ Feingold to the long list of esteemed progressives to grace the Netroots Nation stage. He'll give the opening address on Thursday, June 16 in Minneapolis.
  • Via Think Progress:
The State Department announced yesterday that it is arranging ?voluntary evacuations? from Japan for up to 600 of U.S. diplomats? family members and dependents because of ?growing concern about overheating reactors? at the Fukushima nuclear plant. It also urged U.S. citizens within a 50 mile radius of the plant to evacuate the area while the U.S. government works to facilitate departures.
  • Lansing's mayor joins the Michigan protests:
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero was at the Capitol Wednesday, joining thousands of union members and retirees to protest Governor Snyder?s budget proposal and promote collective bargaining rights for unions.  [...]

?The shift of the burden away from business and toward individuals, in particular individuals at the low end of the economic scale, there?s a fundamental fairness problem with that,? Bernero said.

  • The big question is, which potential 2012 GOP candidate isn't an irritant to their own party in one way or another:
Buddy Roemer, the former Republican governor of Louisiana, is eager to be an outspoken, sharp-edged irritant to the members of his own party, casting them as bought and paid for by the special interests in Washington.
  • In case you missed it, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was given Washington Post real estate to peddle his crap about union-busting.
  • He's baaaack:
Unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller is following in the footsteps of former Gov. Sarah Palin and signing on to an agency to arrange paid speaking engagements for him.

Miller sent out a written statement today saying he?s entered into an agreement with 21st Century Speakers to represent him. [...]

Miller said he plans to speak on March 24th in Montaro, Calif. at ?A Night with the Joe?s," where he will join Joe the Plumber and Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona.

  • What a relief:
Bloomberg News reports that despite the continued effects of the recession felt by many Americans (unemployment levels, for example, still hover near 9 percent), corporations are posting some of their highest profits in decades.
  • Note to self: become an infrequent user as of March 28th:
The New York Times rolled out a plan on Thursday to begin charging the most frequent users of its Web site $15 a month in a bet that readers would pay for news they have grown accustomed to getting free.

Beginning March 28, visitors to NYTimes.com will be able to read 20 articles a month without paying, a limit that company executives said was intended to draw in subscription revenue from the most loyal readers while not driving away the casual visitors who make up the vast majority of the site?s traffic.
